Il clima è torrido, con scarsissime precipitazioni; quasi non piove nella settentrionale regione sahariana, mentre nelle regioni meridionali il clima si fa più umido favorendo la savana. Nel periodo estivo compreso tra giugno ed agosto si raggiungono i 40 °C, sebbene lungo le coste che si distendono basse e rettilinee le temperature siano leggermente più basse a causa della brezza marina. Nel periodo dicembre- marzo a Nouakchott, la capitale, durante il giorno si arriva ai 29 °C e nella notte si scende fino ai 13 °C, anche se le temperature in parecchie altre zone della Mauritania possono scendere sotto lo zero in qualsiasi periodo dell'anno.
The climate is torrid with very few precipitations; it almost never rains in the northern saharian region, while in the southern one the climate gets humid helping the presence of the savannah. The summery period, included between June and August, temperatures reach 40°C even though along the coasts, low and rectilinear, temperatures are a bit lower due to the marine breeze. During December-March period in Nouakchott, the capital, during the day temperatures reach 29°c and at night they decrease till 13°C even though in many parts of Mauritania temperatures can decrease under 0°C in every period of the year.
